Afloat in Time
5 -14 February 2026
Loveday Pride is an artist making paintings and expanded painterly objects, which combine lo-fi materials and brightly coloured abstract languages, whilst questioning the intersection between art making and everyday culture.
Born in Salisbury (2001), currently studying at The Slade, London, Pride’s upcoming show 'Afloat in Time' at MADE will reflect on an experience of Pewsey Carnival, and the floats which she helped design and build over the last two summers.
Recent works draw on references to Pewsey Carnival, and the float which Loveday has designed and built over the last two summers alongside friends in Coopers field, whilst also reflecting on her own life: environment, things she has read, music she is listening to, films she has watched and conversations with friends.
On returning to Pewsey for this show, Loveday looks back to Carnival as a reminder for what's possible in painting. Borrowing an attitude from this feverish period of making which relies on improvisation, conversation, recycled fabrication and exaggerated theatricality, Loveday has produced a new body of work which, rather than relaying a singular account or describing an event, aims to reflect on a tradition of painting and sculpture which is experimental, self-aware and precarious.
