Lucy MJ Ball
Visual Artist
Lucy moved to Wiltshire in 2023 and sees her move as the beginning of a new life. She was drawn to the area she lives in now for its ancient and open landscape and huge skies. An area rich in Neolithic barrows and other sites, an abundance of Sarsen stones as well as the much more recent chalk horses emblazoned across the hillsides.
Lucy is, these days, predominately a printmaker. She studied Fine Art at Canterbury Art College back in the ‘70s. She was a painter in those days. Later on, she studied History of Art at Birkbeck College, University of London.
Lucy’s subject matter is mostly to do with the human
condition, relationships of people and place and of people and animals.
Lucy’s work is also influenced by literature and myth. She sees her creativity as a cathartic process. Lucy enjoys the process of etching which, to her, is alchemical magic. It is a process requiring both creativity and a patient, often slow but considered adherence to technical considerations.
‘… art always wins. Anything can happen to me, but … art will stay.’
