Nick Carrick
Nick Carrick is a contemporary British artist whose expressive, process-driven paintings explore the fragile and shifting nature of memory. His work brings together surface, emotion and physical gesture, creating paintings that feel both immediate and timeless.
Carrick studied at Chelsea College of Arts before completing a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Coventry University. Over a career spanning more than three decades, his work has reached international audiences through exhibitions in China, Canada and Spain, and is held in numerous private collections, including that of British artist Tom Hammick.
Spontaneity and transformation are central to Carrick’s practice. He begins with fast, fluid marks, allowing chance and unpredictability to shape the image. Layers of paint are then built up, distorted, washed back and physically eroded through sanding and the application of bleach.
This process reflects the nature of memory itself — layered, fragmented, lost and reformed. The resulting paintings appear simultaneously constructed and unearthed, inviting the viewer to discover their own associations within Carrick’s evocative and atmospheric imagery.
Nick's solo show 'Land of the Rabbits' runs 11 - 28 November 2026.
