Sally Newton
Sally Newton is a British artist whose practice explores landscape, nature and the changing relationship between observation and abstraction. Born in Hertfordshire in 1982 and raised in Saffron Walden, Essex, she developed an early fascination with art through visits to the museums and galleries of Cambridge, particularly the Fitzwilliam Museum. She graduated from Cambridge School of Art in 2004 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Printmaking).
Initially drawn to etching and the expressive qualities of line and mark-making, Sally’s practice has evolved towards oil painting, which is now her primary medium. Since 2019, she has worked from her studio on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border, alongside an ongoing residency at Cholderton Estate, where she documents the rhythms and changing seasons of an organic working farm.
Her paintings have become increasingly abstract and atmospheric, often developed through a reduced palette and larger-scale compositions. Sally exhibits widely across the UK, with work held in private collections internationally. In 2022, she was awarded the John Busby Seabird Drawing Bursary by the Society of Wildlife Artists.
Sally Newton's solo show runs 10 - 27 February 2027.
