Kate Measham

Kate Measham, owner of Artdrawpaint, has been teaching and running courses in Hampshire for over 20 years. Working in oils and a variety of drawing materials, her work is largely figurative, encompassing landscape, still life, and the human form.

One of her key interests is capturing the passage of time within a single, immobile, two-dimensional image. This can take the form of a subject painted multiple times with subtle variations or an image that evolves and shifts over several days.

Her still lifes explore movement and the histories of objects, often featuring the same items repeatedly. She frequently re-draws and studies compositions from Old Masters, reworking and reinterpreting them. Layers of drawings, rubbed down and reworked, create a palimpsest effect, where the ghost of a previous image adds depth and a sense of time to her work.
